SA1NT ESTORNELL

Through his scores, portraits, essays and poems, Estornell says he/sHe is revealing the vulnerability and the poetic, visual and spontaneous unspoken truths of his subjects. *
For the past two years I have been photographed by men in various states of undress in Europe. Each picture is a fragment of a relationship that may or may not exist. The intimacy between me and the subject blurs whether these are friends, lovers or strangers. My first project that dealt with the fleeting relationships in my life:

" MadVillage_DR1D: What happened to your keytar player?
David Estornell: GOD, nobody ever tells the drummer anything!
Nurse Saä/estornELL White: A semi-sad story really, we were forced to sacrifice her to Shetar Goddess of Hellfire for some cool, refreshing tequila water. Um, you guy should really proofread these questions before you send them out, because you misspelled guitar. How embarrassing. NEW FUCK

Why are you such an asshole?
I am fabrications of an idealized relationship, events, emotions and memories. With my childhood, I have recreated memories of the past as well as created new ones just through the process of doing this project. Thus depicted, is a relationship that is set in reality and fabrication.
MadVillage_DR1D: Would you describe your work as sentimental? Maybe nostalgic?
EstorNELL: Yes, yes, yes. I cry looking at my photographs and writtings, sometimes. But a good cry. I feel lucky to have known the people. There is something that transpires through that interaction and onto the videoclips .Those narratives are played out through the natural personality and physicality of the sitter. So yeah, very sentimental.
MVD: The expressions on your words and that pictures - their eyes - almost sad or melancholy. Some of them look like they’re about to cry. So they were totally straight but were just playing along?
EstorNELL: We were all just acting camp. It wasn’t about sex, it was about acting camp in tenderness. The idea of a practicing homosexual or a practicing heterosexual didn’t exist at this school, my life. I would like to hug my real idea of love. There is no sex in my life now, just an awful lot of paranoia. And the priests were more paranoid than anybody (...) Of course the boys and girls are pretty in the next show, so what? I don´t mind. I am cute and I know but what makes them so special is that I look like they’re honestly having intuition of myself. We are really connected.
MVD: The photos are sweet and honest, but for some reason the text is really not. Maybe it’s the translation from the Spanish text, but it’s like the verbal equivalent of teenagers having sex for the first time. Maybe that’s what they were going for. It’s pretty explicit, and maybe it’s a 90s thing, but it seems like they they just didn’t have the good trashy words yet, “…pushed on his anus muscle…”, “…his tongue cleaned softly under the flange…”, “…entering the tighter zones of his bowel…”, “cum sack”, “love hole”, “love juice”, . Classic. Why? Future plans?
EstorNELL: WOW, you love your acronyms don’t you!! It´s only a pose. The body it´s only a format, a tetrabrick, nothing else, buy Don´t you? Contains the essence of soul. We need to use sex to heal, to link that area bit off the beaten track, where angels fear to tread… c’mon, use your imagination…I live in Spain. I am recording my first album, a Tv-Movie and more proyects, please... I only believe in children, women and nobody more. I admire Dennis Cooper, he is my real mentor, a kind soul... and plans? Well, to be a prayer for more peace in my cotidian life"
